Garden Blog? I Never Said Anything About a Garden Blog.

When I first started writing this blog, I had big ambitions about documenting the progress of our garden this spring. As you can see, that’s not happening.
It’s not that nothing is going on. The garden is doing great. The section of the front garden planted by The Ladies while they were here has finally sprung into action, yielding some radishes for tonight’s salad. I even see tiny beet plants…and here just last week I had accused Jeff of eradicating them while I slept.
 Meanwhile, the potato plants have finally poked their little heads through the surface of the soil out in the back garden. I thought for sure that they had all drowned in our lovely spring rains. The onion sets that we put out with more haste than care (after all, there were 150 of them), have decided to stay around a while and grow. Except the two that I stole for our salad tonight, that is.
The garlic is rampant aboveground and I hope that’s reflected below as well. The New Zealand spinach overwintered nicely and yields a few salads a week. Plus, new lettuce is coming along.
And in a burst of enthusiasm, I put out 4 of our started tomato plants last weekend, thereby causing two nights of hard frost across the entire region. Sorry, folks. They even survived, well protected under some of our many empty cardboard boxes.
Jeff plowed up a flower garden spot for me too, and I’m going to plant it this weekend with…but wait, this is turning into a garden blog, I’ll tell you the rest about the flower bed later.
The point of this blog was supposed to be that I found a much better place to organize my garden stuff online, and that’s over at davesgarden.com, with their journal tool.Â
With the journal, I can create individual plant items, linked to their huge plant database, organize them in groups, create dated entries applying to each or all of them…and oh so much more. Really, the thing is an accountant’s dream. Now if I can figure out how to make it public, you all can go on over there and feed your inner accountant too.
So I think this blog will be more general from now on. Plenty of garden stuff, but just for fun, not for documentation. Oh, and maybe even some chicken photos!

Hi ya’ll, I like the new website and stories about planting the green things.
Jeff - are you excited about the new grandbaby - and doesn’t it make you feel older by the day. I know it does me.

Hi April, thanks for coming by and checking out the blog. I’m having a good time writing it. We are both excited about seeing Jeannette, Steve and the kids…just trying to get ready. Jeff still has to get some bunk beds built for the girls in the guest house, should have that done in a couple weeks we hope.
He says he doesn’t feel old, but the beard’s getting a bit grey!
